Works For Me Wednesday: Freezing PB&J Sandwiches

Y’all.
No, for real.
No, for real.
Y’all.
This is the easiest and most helpful thing in the business of packing school lunches. Make your kid’s peanut butter and jelly sandwiches ahead of time and freeze them. I would not have come up with that on my own, but as soon as I came across the idea, it made so much sense!
Doing this has made my mornings so much easier.
Next time you’re at the grocery store, buy an extra loaf of sandwich bread. Once home, make PB&J sandwiches out of the entire loaf. Wrap. Freeze.
It isn’t brain surgery. I just made two weeks’ worth of sandwiches for Primo in about 5 minutes’ time. I didn’t bother to photograph the endeavor. You can google “freezing peanut butter sandwiches” and find myriad step-by-step instructions with photos and pricing breakdown if you’d like.

Here’s my method:
- Make PB&J sandwiches.
- Cut as your child prefers.
- Wrap each sandwich in plastic wrap.
- Place wrapped sandwiches back into bread loaf’s bag.
- Close bag and place in freezer.
- In the morning, retrieve one sandwich and drop in kid’s lunchbox. It’ll thaw by lunchtime.
We go through these so quickly (Primo takes one to school every day) that I don’t worry about them drying out in the freezer.
As a point of reference, the loaf of bread I just used made 10 sandwiches (using the heels of the loaf).
AND AND AND AND! Guess what? This works with cream cheese and jelly sandwiches, too! Totally! I just tested it (and tasted it). Secondo and Terza have peanut allergies in their classes and, hence, cannot take PB&J to school. They often take cream cheese and jelly sandwiches. When making the sandwiches for Primo, I made a few test CC&J sandwiches and it totally works!
